Experience and Leadership

  • Past Experience: 12 years at the council table as a Councillor, then Mayor of Summerland, Regional Director & Chair of the Regional Hospital District, RDOS, Penticton

 

  • Major Successes:
    • Fiscal Responsibility: Kept taxes low and completed infrastructure projects on time and on budget
    • New infrastructure projects included entrance roads, bike lanes and sidewalk projects for the community, a new RCMP Detachment, and improved operations at treatment facilities
    • With Regional District Directors and First Nations Communities, lobbied the Provincial Ministry of Health resulting in approval for a major expansion of the Penticton Regional Hospital in 2014, which completed in 2019

Passionate About Nanaimo

  • 6 years with the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation as CEO:
    • Supported NRGH and raised funds for the new ICU, Endo Surgical Suite, Heart Health Clinic expansion and the new Preoperative Centre (Hip & Knee Clinic)
    • Supported the purchase of the New Youth Wellness Van to start seeing youth this September and paid for the rental of the Covid Medical Van for People in Crisis
    • Supported medical staff during Covid with supplies, food and appreciation projects

What does Nanaimo need today

  • We must advocate with the Provincial Government for a major expansion for the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, a Cardiac Catheterization Lab and a full Cancer Treatment facility
    • Medical support for people in crisis and homeless
    • More long term care facilities for our frail and elderly
    • More GP’s, Nurse Practitioner’s, nurses, techs and specialists to come to Nanaimo
    • More medical walk-in clinics
  • We must advocate with the Provincial Government to find solutions and support people with addictions, mental health issues and those who are homeless

Nanaimo is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, let’s be the most desirable place to live, work and visit

  • Let’s welcome business to Nanaimo to bring more job opportunities to our residents
  • Take on more infrastructure projects that fix the underground utilities, add sidewalks and bike lanes, where it makes sense and is cost effective
  • Let’s make our city safer by reducing crime
  • Do as much as we can to advance Nanaimo’s culture of art,  entertainment and sports
  • Revitalize our downtown and waterfront
  • Bring more housing options and more affordable housing projects
  • Let’s make building and renovation permits faster and less complicated
  • Good government is vital, collaborate with fellow council members and support staff to get projects going
